Tourist itineraries

Make the most of your stay at the ‘Piazzetta Toscana’ with excursions into the beautiful countryside and visits to medieval towns. The following are well worth a visit: the archaeological park and museum at Baratti and Populonia, the archaeological-mineral park at San Silvestro and the Coastal Park at Rimigliano. The Val di Cornia parks tell a history of thousands of years, bearing witness to centuries of metal work, beginning with the ancient Etruscan people; in our own times, the parks still offer splendid natural environments on the coast and in the hills, with open-air museums full of Etruscan-Roman remains, archaeological sites and exhibitions and shows of international renown. The Costa degli Etruschi Wine Trail is home to the internationally renowned DOC wines of the Val di Cornia. All around the area you will come across farms and agricultural producers offering the excellent local extra-virgin olive oil and other tasty specialities of the area.

Bolgheri is one of the most striking of the medieval towns with its Avenue of Cypresses leading up to the town, immortalized in the poetry of Giosuè Carducci, and its surrounding countryside full of vineyards and olive groves; then there is Volterra, an old Etruscan town which still has its ancient Porta, or gateway, as well as the historic medieval town centre and a very interesting Roman Theatre.
